Medicare Part B is the medical insurance component of Original Medicare. It pays for medically necessary services and preventive health services. It covers the gaps that aren’t covered by Part A hospital insurance, resulting in full major health coverage when combined.

Medicare Part B isn’t free. You always have to pay a monthly premium, which is $148.50 in 2021. You’ll also be required to pay other costs, such as coinsurance and deductibles. Excess charges sometimes come up as well. These charges are extra expenses that are billed by your care provider.
